Teton Ski Trip!

Tonight I'm off to Driggs for my first big backcountry ski trip. This is why I learned to ski, what I've been working toward for the past 5 years. Needless to say, I'm incredibly excited. Were I one to use such terms, I might even say I'm stoked.

These are pics from Derek and David's previous trip to the Baldy Knoll Hut.

We'll ski Grand Targhee Wednesday. Then we'll hike in to the hut on Thursday and ski up there til Sunday. This is what I'm in for.

Oh ma gawd.

See you next week.

Douchenko Wins (Invents) Platinum Medal!

The delusions continue. I'm starting to feel sorry for this guy. Well, not really, but were he not such a complete douchenozzle I might.
Just put a ribbon through the center of a CD (likely Celine Dion or some godawful Romanian pop) and you too are a platinum medalist!

They want your e-mail. I gave 'em mine. The song is worth it.

White=Amazing

I got to watch a replay of the men's snowboard event last night. I hadn't seen any yet, and after watching a bunch of the competitors I wondered what could be so much better about White's routine.

Then he went.

Holy crap. The height he gets, the stunts he pulls, the uncanny cat-like way he forces his body and board to do these unreasonable moves and STILL hit feet-down is totally unreal. After watching him, there's no mystery. He's one of a kind.

Finn Riggins LIVE on Range Life!

Very exciting news on the Range today. Boise's own Finn Riggins will visit the RadioBoise studio during Range Life tonight. They'll sit and chat, they'll play a few songs, all just for you, dear listeners.

This band spent a good long time on the road this past winter, opening for indie kings Built to Spill. And now, they're headed back out on the road to headline their own cross country tour.

Their new record, Vs. Wilderness, is a brilliant batch of keyboard-driven rock and roll, combining smart lyrics with complex cadences and a bag of tricks as deep as a steel drum.

Tune in to www.radioboise.org Wednesday from 6 to 8pm mountain time, and Friday from 1 to 3pm.

Last Step

Will started the backsplash today, the last step in the new kitchen. The difference is already amazing--can't wait til he's done.

Presidents' Day

Got up at 6:40 this morning, cleaned up and got dressed, fed the animals, put all my crap in my bag, and as I'm putting on my coat for the ride to work, I realize, I have today off.

Off to clean the garage, then. And get ready for my upcoming hut ski trip to Baldy Knoll up in the Tetons.

Hopefully I'll even get a couple hours' fishing in this afternoon if the sun shows.

Happy Presidents' Day everyone!

New on the Range

It's a good week on the Range. New music from Yeasayer, Locsil, Spoon, Oh No Ono, Los Campesinos!, Four Tet, the legend Gil Scott-Heron, and more. Lots of good old stuff, too. Something tells me I might get sidetracked on some kinda love song trip, too...

Tune in Wednesday 5 to 7pm mst, or Friday 1 to 3pm mst, www.radioboise.org.

You won't be sorry.

I'm New Here

Gil Scott-Heron's got a new record out, and though I've only heard a couple tracks, it definitely warrants attention.

This dude's influenced more artists that we listen to than most of us realize. It's a real treat when the figureheads or progenitors of a movement or genre continue to produce, or return to producing music that is not a victory lap of heavy-handed history lesson but a vital and thriving piece of art in itself. Seems that's what Heron has done with I'm New Here.

Check it out. I'll be playing some this week on Range Life.
