On a winding uphill finish, Alejandro Valverde, newly crowned Spanish national champion, jumped into the lead in the last half a kilo and rolled through the finish with a nice gap to take the Tour's opening stage.
No prologue time trial this year, so the first winner is the first in yellow.
I've said this before, but I truly think this could be Valverde's year.
